Goldwind Americas’ Rattlesnake Wind Project, located in McCulloch County, Texas, is the company’s largest U.S. wind project to date. When completed, the 160-megawatt (MW) project will be home to 64 Goldwind 2.5 MW Permanent Magnet Direct Drive (PMDD) wind turbines.
Constructing a wind project is no easy task but is an impressive set of events. To ensure you are prepared for the influx of traffic that will be occurring over the coming months we’ve provided this brief project update complete with safety precautions.
PROJECT UPDATE
Starting at the end of October, the project will be receiving large-scale tower components. These trucks will be traveling east on Highway 87, turning north onto CR 128, about a mile east of Melvin. The project will be receiving eight complete towers each week.
Deliveries will be made during the hours of 7:30 am and 3:00 pm Monday through Saturday. Please note that some trucks arriving later in the day will be exiting the site in the evening.
DELIVERIES TO WATCH FOR
- 11 tractor trailers per tower
- 704 trucks between October and January
- Trucks range in length from 81 feet to 202 feet long
- Each truck weighs 86,000 to 254,000 pounds
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Most trucks will have front and rear escorts, and there will be signage along Highway 87 starting approximately one thousand feet in either direction of where the trucks will be turning.
Safety is of paramount to Goldwind. Our goal is to keep the public informed and safe when this activity begins. There will be personnel on the highway to flag traffic as these shipments arrive to avoid unsafe activity on the roads.
While we know these deliveries are an impressive sight to see, we ask that all motorists observe and obey all traffic control signs and personnel, and exercise caution when driving near delivery vehicles.
Thank you for your support of the Rattlesnake Wind Project.
